Tesco appeal against Mill Road alcohol refusal

Following the decision of the Licensing Sub-Committee on the 17th August 2009, the City Council has been advised that Tesco Stores Ltd. have appealed the Sub-Committee's decision and consequently the matter will be subject to a further hearing in the Magistrates Court. It is likely that persons who attended to speak on the 17th August may be asked to attend the Magistrates Court on a date to be set by them. We will keep you advised of developments.

I hope the strongly expressed views of local residents aren't ignored in the Magistrates Court...

How odd, given that their "Corporate Responsibility" policy clearly states:

"We do not apply for licences in areas with known disorder issues"

Could it be that that is simply a set of lies?

Perhaps a complaint to members of the main board would be in order...

In my regulatory career I found Tesco's to be one of the most aggressive, janus faced organisations in this Country. They really do believe they are above the law and use their finanical muscle to reinforce this.

I do hope the incoming Conservative will not toadie to corporations like these (and I do have my concerns) other wise we will be rapidly heading towards a state of Corporate Fascism in this Country.

Tescos also have a very well funded legal team so I shall stay annonymous on this one ;-)
